If you’re reading this, chances are that you’ve probably ordered food over the phone or online. And if you're like me, you're grateful for the couriers who have braved the elements (snow, wind, rain etc) to deliver your perfectly warm delicious food. Have you ever thought that possibly you too could earn money from delivering food to others in your free time? In this post we will discuss doing just that as a Skipper.
What is Skip The Dishes?
Skip The Dishes is an app based food courier service that allows you to accept and make deliveries in your selected delivery area. The network has a range of coverage in several cities across Canada which makes it even more flexible for you to earn from Skip wherever you are.
What do you need to get started?
Firstly, you need the right mindset. If you think that providing this kind of service for a living is beneath you, you will probably not take it seriously and you will miss out on the earning potential here. It requires the professionalism, dedication and consistency of any other job. Mindset aside...You have to have a car (safe and of reasonable age), a motorbike or bicycle. If you are in the downtown areas for e.g. Downtown Toronto you may can literally Skip on your two feet. Once approved, you will also need to purchase food courier bags, so budget $80 - $100 for startup costs and count it as an investment.
How does it work?
There is a learning curve to understanding how any food courier app works especially because they keep improving the apps and making changes to how things work. Thankfully, they have phone support dedicated to walking new Skippers through an orientation of how it all works.
That said...once you figure out the app it's as simple as 1...2...3...you set your available times each week, you get matched to a shift of 4hrs or less or currently you can set your status to "Available" whenever you want to work.
Once you are on a shift you get matched to jobs and you have a timeframe within which to accept. You can see all the specifics of the job such as pay amount, restaurants for pick up and travel distance etc, and this can help you determine if you want to take the job or not. Skippers who accept 8 out of 10 jobs get top up amounts. There are other perks for being a fast and eager Skipper too. If you are professional and treat the work seriously you can earn more.
How much can you earn?
If you work 6 shifts of 4hrs each you can earn over $400 a week. The simple math is, the more you Skip, the more you
