Rakuten, formerly known as Ebates is a great way to earn cash back on every day purchases or gift purchases during the holiday season. Ebates is also a good savings strategy for purchases you were planning to make anyway, cash back or no cash back.

How to get started?

Click here to sign up and get your first $5 cash back bonus when you make your first purchase through the portal. The app is available on Android and on iPhone.

How it works?

Once you are signed up you can find your store on eBates, click on the store promotion (for example Walmart may be offering 2% back) and shop through their portal. There are a  number of stores in their portal from Groupon to Amazon, you name it.

When shopping you can check the upper left corner of the page for the Rakuten sign to make sure you are shopping through their portal and not directly from the Walmart app, for example.

How do you get paid?

After you shop at a store through the Rakuten Ebates portal you will see the money earned reflected in your account a few days after the items have shipped.

They pay by regular cheque mailed free of cost, by PayPal or by Amazon gift card every three months. You choose your preferred payment method.
